Bosun Support

Open Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards → Add New Keyboard → Bosun. Then tap Bosun in that list and turn on Allow Full Access. Open the Bosun app once and the setup checkmarks turn green by themselves.

When you flip that switch, iOS warns you that a keyboard can transmit everything you type, including credit card numbers. That warning is true, and it applies to every keyboard in the App Store. You should read it, and you should want an answer from us before you tap Allow. Here is the whole answer.

iOS gives a keyboard no internet and no clipboard unless Full Access is on. Translation needs the internet, and the 📋 key needs the clipboard. That is the only reason Bosun asks.

What Bosun sends: the text you tap translate on, and nothing else. Not your passwords, not your card numbers, not the message you typed and deleted. It goes to Anthropic on your API key — not to us. We run no server for the keyboard, so there is no account for your text to be attached to even if we wanted one. We keep no history, no logs and no analytics.

And you can check rather than trust: leave Full Access off and Bosun still types, still does emoji, autocorrect and dictation — you simply lose translation. Turn it on only when you want translation, and off again whenever you like. Because translation runs on your own Anthropic key, every request Bosun makes also appears on your own bill, where you can count them. Full detail in the privacy policy.

Bosun translates using your own Anthropic account. Create a key at console.anthropic.com, paste it into the Bosun app under “Type in a different language,” and it’s stored in your device’s Keychain — never sent to us.

Two ways. Strip: tap the bar above the keys, type in your language, tap ➤ — only the translation enters the chat. Draft flip: dictate or type in the message box, then tap ➤ (or → EN) to flip what’s already there, in place.

Long-press their message → Copy → tap 📋 on the Bosun keyboard. The translation appears in a pane above the keys. It’s never typed into the chat, and drag the bar to make the pane bigger.

Use the system dictation mic at the bottom-right of the keyboard area. Apple does not allow third-party keyboards to use the microphone — that rule applies to every keyboard on iOS — so Bosun pairs with Apple’s mic and translates what you said.

In the Bosun app, set I speak as and I’m writing to. Languages like Russian and Spanish change word forms based on who’s speaking and who’s being addressed, and these settings make your messages grammatically right.

Make sure you’re on the latest version — this was fixed in an early build. If it happens again, note the app and message length and email us; that detail is what makes it fixable.

Hold left Option and talk to type in your own language — that one is free forever, plan or no plan, and it runs entirely on your Mac. Hold right Option and the same sentence arrives translated. ⌃⇧T replaces highlighted text with its translation in place; ⌃⇧E brings highlighted text back into your language. Your clipboard is put back exactly as you left it.

It is the only way macOS lets an app type into other apps and notice the Option key. Bosun uses it for nothing else — it does not read your screen and does not log what you type. If you ever replace the app with a new version, macOS may silently revoke the grant; switch it off and on again in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility.

Open Settings in Bosun's menu-bar menu and paste it into the licence field there — the row underneath should change to “Licensed to…”. Keys are checked offline on your own Mac, so this works with no internet. Paste the key exactly as the email shows it, with no trailing space. If it still won't take, forward us the receipt and we'll mint a fresh one.

No. Dictation in your own language keeps working, and a lapsed plan never eats a sentence — your words are still typed, just untranslated. Nothing you wrote is held back or deleted.
