Bosun Privacy Policy

Effective 9 August 2026 · Applies to Bosun for Mac and Bosun Translate Keyboard for iPhone

The short version. Your voice is transcribed on your own device wherever your language supports it. Nothing you translate is stored — not by us, not anywhere. On your own API key your text never touches us at all. On Bosun Pro it passes through our relay on its way to Anthropic and is gone the same second; it is never written to disk or to a database. We run no analytics, no advertising and no tracking, on either app.

Bosun is made by Treemoondus Life LLC (“we”), a Massachusetts limited liability company. Questions: info@treemoondus.com.

The iPhone keyboard is free to use. Typing, emoji and dictation cost nothing and need no account. Translation needs either your own Anthropic key (you pay Anthropic directly) or a Bosun Pro subscription; the same two choices exist on Bosun for Mac. The plan you pick decides who, if anyone, sees your text — the table below is the whole of it.

Which plan you are on decides who sees your text

This is the only part of the policy that differs between customers, so it comes first.

PlanWhere a translation goesWhat we can see
Free
(dictation only)
Nowhere. Speech is transcribed on your own machine and typed straight into the app you are using. Nothing. No network request is made.
Pro, using your own key
(optional)
Directly from your device to Anthropic’s Claude API over HTTPS, using your Anthropic key. Nothing. No Treemoondus server is in the path.
Bosun Pro From your device to our relay at license.treemoondus.com, which forwards it to Anthropic on our key and returns the answer. The text is in our server’s memory for the moment it takes to forward it. It is never written to disk, never logged and never stored. What we do keep is a daily count of tokens against your licence — numbers only, never content.

What stays on your device, on every plan

What leaves your device, and only when you ask

A translation is sent only when you deliberately ask for one — holding the right Option key, pressing ⌃⇧T or ⌃⇧E, choosing Translate clipboard, or tapping ➤, → or 📋 on the iPhone keyboard. Nothing is sent automatically, in the background, or while you are simply typing.

Requests to Anthropic are governed by Anthropic’s privacy policy. On the bring-your-own-key plan that relationship is yours, under your own account. On Bosun Pro it is ours, and Anthropic receives your text with no name, email or account attached to it.

Clipboard

Bosun reads your clipboard only when you ask it to — the Translate clipboard command on the Mac, or the 📋 key on the iPhone keyboard, where iOS shows its own paste prompt first. The copied text is translated, shown to you, and discarded. Translate-in-place (⌃⇧T) copies your selection and then puts your previous clipboard back exactly as it was.

Permissions we ask for, and why

What we hold because you bought something

How you pay depends on where you bought. On the Mac, and for a bring-your-own-key plan, our payment processor Gumroad takes your payment and card details. For a Bosun Pro subscription on iPhone, Apple takes the payment through the App Store. In neither case do we see or store a card number. From Gumroad we learn your email address and what you bought; from Apple we receive only a signed receipt for your subscription, with no name, email or card attached. We keep:

Gumroad licence keys are delivered by email through Resend, which processes the email on our behalf. A key is verified offline on your device. An App Store subscription carries its own signed receipt from Apple — there is no emailed key, and Apple, not us, manages the billing, renewal and cancellation.

It does ask us for one thing. When your subscription is close to renewing, the Mac app requests your new key from our licence server so you never have to find an email and paste one in. It sends only the key itself, and our server keeps an ordinary access log of the request. Nothing you have typed or translated is involved.

Website

Our web server keeps ordinary access logs (IP address, page, time) so we can tell whether the site is working and being visited. There are no cookies, no third-party analytics, no advertising pixels and no tracking scripts on any Treemoondus page.

Retention and deletion

We keep your purchase record for as long as you hold a licence and afterwards for as long as tax and accounting rules require. Everything else described above we do not keep at all, because we never receive it. Deleting the app removes all local data, including your stored key. To have your purchase record and email erased, write to info@treemoondus.com and we will do it.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you may ask us what we hold about you, ask for a copy, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it — one email is enough, and we do not charge for it. We do not sell personal information, and we have never done so. We do not use your data to train any model, and our agreement with Anthropic covers text sent through the Pro relay on the same basis.

Children

Bosun is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone — see above: on the translation path we collect nothing.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version is posted at this address with a new effective date, and material changes are announced in the app before they take effect.
